MEPs adopted legislative initiative on MFF
On 4 May 2020, the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) of the
Budget Committee adopted a legislative initiative, requesting the European Commission (EC) to submit an Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) contingency plan for 2021-2027 by mid June 2020. The purpose of this request is to provide a safety net for beneficiaries of EU programmes and avoid any risk for the current MFF and EU programmes. According to the MEPs, the contingency plan for the MFF should aim at focusing on economic and social consequences of COVID-19 and at assisting in the recovery of the pandemic.
This report is planned to be submitted to a plenary vote in the coming week. Its potential endorsement will make the EC either to present its proposal or to inform the MEPs for the reasons of the opposite.
