Germany takes over EU Council Presidency

As of 1 July 2020, Germany holds the EU Council Presidency for the second half of 2020, following Croatia. The priorities of Germany’s Presidency are driven by the motto: “Together for Europe’s recovery” and are based on six pillars:
  • overcoming the consequences of the coronavirus crisis for the long-term as well as economic and social recovery
  • a stronger and more innovative Europe
  • a fair Europe
  • a sustainable Europe
  • a Europe of security and common values
  • a strong Europe in the world
  According to its Presidency programme, Germany will focus on overcoming the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, while trying to fight the spread of the virus, support the European economy and reinforce social cohesion in Europe. On the 1st of July, the three successive presidencies, known as presidency trios, also took over. The current trio is made up of the presidencies of Germany, Portugal and Slovenia in order to ensure the continuity of the EU Council’s work.   More information on the Presidency, its priorities and foreseen events
