FCH-JU Highlights 3 of its High Impact Success Stories

The Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU) is a Joint Technology Initiative (JTI) supporting research, technological development and demonstration activities in fuel cell and hydrogen  energy technologies, aiming at accelerating the market introduction of these technologies. FCH-JU highlights 3 of its high impact success stories:   Driving hydrogen fuel cell vehicles to market: EU-funded project with support of the FCH JU has tested prototype fuel cell cars, installed hydrogen filling stations, and brought together car makers and infrastructure providers to push forward the commercial viability of this zero-emissions technology. Such hydrogen vehicle has also been tested by Commissioner Moedas (see video).   Improved hydrogen fuel cells to power the cars of the future: To drive this zero-emissions hydrogen car for long distances, EARTO member CEA has coordinated a project supported by FCH JU, aiming for instance at increasing the quality of the battery which are inside the car and at cutting costs and making hydrogen cars a viable and competitive option for the future.   Domestic fuel cells – the power within: This project aims at developing fuel cell batteries to produce electricity and heat at home and reduce environmental footprint while saving money. Residential fuel cell units could deliver these benefits to millions of homes in the EU, and preparations to ramp up their production are under way.   For more information on JTIs & cPPPs, see EARTO response to EC Consultation on Joint Undertaking: How Joint Undertakings boost RTOs-Industry Collaboration & Leverage Private RD&I Investments in Europe.
