On 11 May 2020, the
European Innovation Council (EIC) Pathfinder Pilot selected
35 cutting-edge projects to receive €114 million funding from Horizon 2020 Programme. Almost 1/2 of these new EIC projects involve RTOs, including 11 EARTO Members in 15 projects:

- Tecnalia (Spain): MAIA
- Tyndall (Ireland): NANO-EH
- VTT (Finland): ALMA, Brainiaqs and WASTE-NOT
22 out of 30 projects come from the
EIC Pathfinder Proactive and the
remaining 13 applied for
Transition to innovation activities funding, supporting the successful result of a mature research project to commercialise their activities. In parallel, Mr Iordanis Arzimanoglou, as an expert in genetics, cancer research, biotechnology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) medicine, has been appointed as the first
EIC Programme Manager. His role is to set visions for technological and innovation breakthroughs, transforming them into reality and bringing synergies across the EIC project portfolio. According to the EIC, five programme managers will be appointed and further appointments are expected in Horizon Europe (2021-2027).
