EC published new EU Standardisation Strategy

The European Commission (EC) recently presented a new Standardisation Strategy combined with a Report about its implementation, a Proposal of amendment to the Standardisation Regulation, and the and the 2022 annual Union work programme for European standardisation. The aim of this strategy is to increase the resilience of the European economy, to make it more digital and greener, to improve competitiveness and to safeguard democratic values in technology applications.

The new Standardisation strategy illustrates the EU approach to standards concerning the Single Market and globally proposing five main actions:

  • Anticipate, prioritise and address standardisation needs in strategic areas
  • Improve the governance and integrity of the European standardisation system
  • Enhance European leadership in global standards
  • Support innovation
  • Enable the next generation of standardisation experts
