EC published its new report on “Future technology for prosperity – Horizon Scanning”

On 24 September 2019, the European Commission published its report on “Future technology for prosperity – Horizon Scanning”, during the European R&I days in Brussels. The report is the outcome of a Leaders’ workshop that took place on 2-3 Oslo in July 2019, bringing together leading figures from European research and technology organisations and funders to explore emerging technologies. Many EARTO Members participated in this workshop, highlighting the importance of future technology and contributing in Horizon Europe Strategic Planning process (AIT, CEA, CSEM, Flanders Make, Fraunhofer, JSI, LIST, RISE, SINTEF, Tecnalia, TNO, VTT, UEFISCDI).   The report presents the key recommendations from this workshop as well as five technological frameworks that have the potential to create economic and societal prosperity: Biological Transformation, Smart Materials, Low Energy Data Transmission, Power to X and Marine Technologies.The workshop also looked at methods to do technology horizon scanning, collaboration and technology transfer and put forward recommendations to national and European policymakers about technology investments from non-EU countries, ethics and social science, use of innovative procurement, legislation and leadership through purpose and scale.   Future technology for prosperity – Horizon Scanning
