EC proposed EIT strategy for 2021-2027

On 11 July, the European Commission (EC) proposed the revised Regulation of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) and its new Strategic Innovation Agenda for 2021-2027. The EIT is currently funding eight Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs), which bring together companies, universities and research centers to develop cross-border partnerships. With a proposed budget of 3B euros in the new legal base, the EIT will fund activities of already existing and new KICs while supporting the innovation capacity of 750 higher education institutions.   The goals of the Strategic Innovation Agenda is to:
  • increase the regional impact of KICs by developing regional outreach strategies and links to Smart Specialisation Strategies;
  • boost the innovation capacity of higher education;
  • launch new KICs, especially one KIC with a focus on cultural and creative industries, planning to start in 2022.
  The revised EIT legal base and the Strategic Innovation Agenda will then be presented to the European Parliament and the Council in order to discussed and adopted.   More information
