The Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (R&I) of the European Commission (EC) recently published a policy brief report on
“Industry 5.0 – Towards a sustainable, human-centric and resilient European industry”, aiming at recognising the importance of industry to reach societal goals beyond jobs and growth to become a resilient provider of prosperity. This report feeds into the wider debate on industrial transformation and, among other objectives:
- emphasises the main building blocks of the Industry 5.0 approach which compliments and extends Industry 4.0
- points out the main benefits for workers
- provides a mapping of ongoing and finalised R&I projects that are pertinent to Industry 5.0
According to the EC DG R&I report, the
Industry 5.0 is the result of a forward-looking exercise to help framing how European industry and emerging societal trends and needs can co-exist. In this regard, the report marks the beginning of a co-creation process with all relevant stakeholders in order to provide a course of action to make a sustainable, resilient and human-centric industry- industry 5.0 a reality.
