EC adopted its Annual Sustainable Growth Strategy 2020

On 17 December 2019, the European Commission (EC) adopted its new Annual Sustainable Growth Strategy (ASGS) for 2020, as part of the new European Semester cycle. The ASGS sets out the economic and employment policy strategy for the EU, which will aim at delivering President Ursula von der Leyen’s Political Guidelines and focusing on prioritising the European Green Deal. Overall, the ASGS positions R&I as enablers and drivers of the EU’s transformation into a sustainable economy, taking a prominent role across various sections of the report.   The economic agenda in the ASGS stresses the need for investment in cutting-edge R&I, using the full flexibility of the next EU budget to focus on the areas with the greatest potential. These investments should be directed towards climate change and disruptive innovation efforts at EU and national level. The ASGS also underlines that a systematic R&I strategy is required in order to achieve a higher productivity.   More information
