EARTO organised its Policy Event and Innovation Awards on 12 October 2022 which took place at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Belgium. The Policy Event gathered more than 200 representatives from more than 30 countries worldwide (RTOs, EU institutions, industry as well as other key R&I stakeholders). The programme featured two keynotes’ speeches from Ms. Jorna, Director General, DG GROW, European Commission and Ms Panagopoulou, Director, ERA & Innovation, DG R&I, European Commission. The topics covered at this year’s Policy Event were wide-ranging and included the implementation of the New EU Innovation Agenda, the key Role of RTOs in the impact of EU RD&I Investments and the upcoming Horizon Europe Mid-Term Review which gathered the interest of the R&I community through valuable speeches and panel discussions.
The 14th edition of the EARTO Innovation Awards Ceremony was held right after the Policy Event. Six RTOs’ innovations were rewarded by Mr Antti Vasara, President of EARTO on two categories: Impact Delivered and Impact Expected. HELMHOLTZ in collaboration with INERATEC received the award in the Impact Delivered category for the development of sustainable e-Fuels and chemicals as well as modular chemical plants for Power-to-X and Gasto-Liquid applications which actively contribute to a more sustainable future with lower emissions by providing a sustainable solution for hard to defossilise sectors. VTTTechnical Research Centre of Finland received the award in the Impact Expected category for the development of a technology to reuse CO2 in the precast concrete industry, which transforms gaseous CO2 into solid carbonates at the concrete hardening process, decreasing the carbon footprint of the products. On the same day, EARTO has published its 2022 edition of its Innovation Awards brochure! A collection of forty-two innovations featuring EARTO members. The brochure includes articles on all RTOs that took part in this year’s competition, as well as articles on RTOs International Network (RIN), with a special focus on the six finalists which are, in addition to the two winners: Fraunhofer, RISE, TNO, SINTEF. Mr Ehler, Member of the European Parliament also delivered a keynote speech during the Innovation Awards.
