EC approves €1.75 billion public support for RD&I IPCEI project in microelectronics

An important project of common EU interest (IPCEI) in the microelectronic sector has been approved by the European Commission under EU State aid rules. The project, proposed by France, Germany, Italy and the UK, will contribute to the reinforcement of research and innovation in this key technology. The public support will unlock an additional six billion euros of private investment. The main objective of the project is to empower research and develop innovative technologies and components. These four countries will grant public support to 29 direct participants. Their work will focus on five different technology areas:
  • Energy efficient chips;
  • Power semiconductors;
  • Smart sensors;
  • Advanced optical equipment;
  • Compound materials.
  The project is expected to be completed by 2024.   More information
