Commission plans to reorganise DG RTD

On 15 January, Jean-Eric Paquet, Director General for Research and Innovation, presented internally his plan for the reorganisation of the EC department of research and innovation, which ought to be implemented in spring 2019.   The reorganised DG staff should deliver on three policy priorities: open science, open innovation and sustainable development. The most significant change is the creation of a 4-Member “RTD Board” (Paquel and three deputies included). The whole staff will report directly to Paquet and the role of the three deputies is to monitor the three policy goals across the DG.   The new arrangements cover a small reduction of staff “units” (from 54 to 50). The new DG staff is planned to number 1,200 by 2020 (105 less from 2018 and 600 from the previous reorganisation in 2014).   More information
