Working Groups, Task Forces
The EARTO Working Group is an open forum in which members meet to raise and debate European issues, to plan new projects, to prepare new EARTO task forces and publications. The EARTO Workng Group traditionally meets on the occasion of the Annual Conference and may also meet at other times of the year.
Specialised Working Groups form when a group of members wishes to exchange experience on a subject of common interest. Examples of recent working groups are:
• Framework Programme Project Management Tools and Techniques
• Technology Commercialisation through Spin-offs
• Quality and Excellence in RTOs
• Career Development Programmes for Young Researchers
• Technology Licensing
• RTO Finances
Task Forces are established from time to time by the Executive Board to help the Association mobilise members' expertise for the purpose of formulating an EARTO policy position. Examples of recent Task Forces are:
• ex-post FP6 project audits
• IP Charter proposed by the German EU Presidency
• Revised European State Aid Framework for R&D&I
Special Interest Groups address subjects of longer-term interest to members sharing a specific interest. These are generally autonomous groupings of RTOs which have emerged out of EARTO and/or which EARTO assists, e.g. legal and fiscal assistance at start-up, provision of office space, organisation of meetings, etc.:
• EuroTech is a grouping at Chief Executive/President level of the larger RTOs in Europe and meets under the auspices of EARTO
• The SAFE Consortium is an association of RTOs specialised in food safety issues. It disseminates authoritative, independent scientific information on food safety and initiates and promotes the formation of research partnerships to identify and address key and emerging food safety issues
• EARPA is an association of RTOs specialised in automotive research
• eartofood.org is set up by members of EuroTech with the aims to bridge research and technology to the food industrial sector as well as to contribute to the integration of the new technologies into the foods of the future
